As the title says, we are going to climb Mt St Helens on Wednesday, June 17! We have done this several times in the past and speaking from experience, it is fun, hard and very satisfying! The view at the summit is simply spectacular. (as long as it’s not raining!)
To climb Mt St Helens you must have a pass and these passes are going fast. There are currently only 38 left for June 17 and they are disappearing while you are reading this blog. The rest of the summer has been sold out.
Sooooo, if you want to climb with us buy a permit immediately and then let me know you are coming. The web page is http://mshinstitute.org/index.
We will leave the parking lot at Trainer’s Club at 6AM sharp. We arrive at the trailhead around 8:30 and start climbing by 9. We summit around 12-1PMand are back at the parking lot by about 4PM.
No climbing experience is required, it is a long, hard hike with a lot of steep pitches. Stiff hiking boots and layered outer wear is definetly required. Climbing poles or ski poles along with crampons come in handy but are not required.
Ski pants and/or a thick garbage bag make for some terrific glisading down the snow fields. (glisading is climb speak for sliding down the mountain like a child!)
Talk to any trainer at the club and they will help you set up a training regime so that you are ready to climb that day. You must get in shape for this climb, it is not a walk in the park!
Bring lots of water and food and your camera of course.
TO THE TOP!!!
